Tangents of an AuthorWelcome to my authorial tangents!
|
This blog entry is brought to you by my eternal self doubt and the need to have proof to contradict that belief!
I can feel it in my bones that this is going to be a lengthy tangent, but that's what you've probably gotten used to, right? This is an essay about my need to have reminders of validation because otherwise my self-worth goes down the drain when I'm impaled by negatives. Anyhow, let's get this show on the road!

Today especially, the topic has been about burnout all over publishing twitter. Four editors mentioned they are no longer at their publishing house, with three of which explicitly stating that they are leaving publishing.
It's a grey day for nearly every person under the publishing sun, which is why I've decided to ramble about burnout and the importance of breaks! On twitter, while admittedly doomscrolling, I've been seeing some chatter about plotter vs pantser. I know it's an overdone discussion, and I know it all eventually boils down to "whatever works for you", but I wanted to give my insight on the whole subject which is that I don't consider myself any of the three options!
So, let's dive into it. Hey, it's me again, your friendly, rambling Amanda!
After a few week break due to COVID and poor mental health, I'm trying to climb back on this wagon! Today, with the announcement of AMM mentor picks, I'd like to talk more in depth about Mentorship contests. Though I briefly touched on them in my rejection blog, I feel like with the raw emotions I'm experiencing I might as well jot them down on paper. Okay, here's my second week in a row with blogs! So far I'm on the right track.
This week, I wanna talk about rejection — whether that be with mentorship contests, pitch events, querying, whatever the case may be. I haven't got my yes yet, but I'm still optimistic, and here is something I hope to help with! Hey everyone!
I'm not really sure how helpful my blogs may be to anyone, but it's something I've always wanted to do. So, starting today, I have a goal of updating this weekly with my random writerly thoughts! This week, since I finished up my line editing of A SPLINTERED HORN, I'm beginning to figure out my next project, which spurred me into deciding to make this blog. So, welcome to my tangents! |
